The Mechanism of Kidney Function
Each kidney contains around a million nephrons, which are its core filtering units. Every nephron is made up of a glomerulus, which filters the blood, and a tubule, which reabsorbs essential substances and removes waste. This is the primary function of nephrons.
In every nephron, the glomerulus filters out waste from the blood, while the tubule reabsorbs necessary elements and expels the waste. The resulting waste and excess water become urine.
Your kidneys filter blood multiple times daily, handling more than 150 quarts of blood each day. Most of the water and valuable substances that pass through the glomeruli are reabsorbed by the tubules, with only one to two quarts becoming urine.
The renal artery supplies unfiltered blood to the kidneys, while the renal vein carries the filtered blood away. The ureter then transports urine from the kidney to the bladder.
Kidney Diseases: Causes, Symptoms & Repercussions
Anyone can develop kidney disease, but some people are at a higher risk due to certain factors. The leading risk factors in the U.S. include diabetes and high blood pressure.
Other significant contributors to kidney disease are stress, obesity, smoking, alcohol consumption, and glomerulonephritis. Having these risk factors doesn’t guarantee kidney disease, but early treatment can prevent its progression if it does develop.
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) symptoms may gradually appear as kidney damage increases. Reduced kidney function can cause fluid buildup, waste accumulation, and electrolyte disturbances, among other issues. As the disease progresses, symptoms like these may develop.
Kidneys are crucial for overall body function. When they fail to work as they should, other health complications are likely. Common issues associated with kidney disease include gout, anemia, secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT), bone disorders, heart problems, and fluid accumulation.

Top Quality Key Ingredients
Dandelion: A natural diuretic, dandelion helps increase urine production, which assists in flushing toxins from the kidneys. Its anti-inflammatory properties can reduce kidney inflammation and improve overall function. Rich in antioxidants, dandelion helps protect kidneys from free radical damage.
Polygonatum: Known for preventing kidney damage and promoting longevity, Polygonatum helps lower blood pressure, blood sugar, and lipids, prevents atherosclerosis, and provides antioxidant benefits. It’s also effective against various bacteria and skin fungi and beneficial for managing diabetes.
Angelica Roots: Often referred to as the “stone breaker,” Angelica roots are traditionally used for treating kidney stones. They help prevent the formation of stones and can reduce their size. Research shows that Angelica roots can boost immunity, alleviate headaches and insomnia, and inhibit melanin production, reducing freckles and age spots. They are also used for Alzheimer’s treatment.
Epimedium: Known to prevent sarcoma and lung cancer spread, Epimedium also inhibits chemically-induced cancers and bacterial infections. It strengthens immune response against cancer cells and helps prevent aging and cardiovascular diseases. It addresses symptoms caused by kidney yang deficiency, such as male hormone imbalances, urinary incontinence, and high blood pressure.
